Keep It A Secret Poster

Artist & Illustrator Pete Lloyd on his inspiration and design of film poster.

“Being a Northern Irish surfer myself, I really

went back to my roots with this one.

The Producer/Director Sean Duggan suggested featuring my Dad, Martin Lloyd - a pioneer of Irish surfing, as the central image as he had in his stills archive a photo that he loved of him from the early 70s in a DIY wetsuit. My Dad and the Belfast/North Coast crew’s method for making a wetsuit involved someone lying on the floor on a sheet of neoprene, they would then draw around them, cut the shape out from the neoprene and glue it all together. Before that Alan Duke (who doesn’t feature in the poster but is both a masterful surfer and oil painter and a big inspiration for my art early on) would surf until Christmas in the cold North Coast water with no wetsuit at all!

The Dublin crew led by Kevin Cavey are also at the heart of the movie that tells the story of a bond between Northern and Southern surfers that transcended the conflict and religious sectarianism that divided many of their countrymen.

It’s a fascinating film that proved to be an education for myself despite the many stories my Dad has recounted over the years and I’m very grateful to have been involved in making the poster art. “
